Almost Heaven, West Virginia.

I seem to be apologizing a lot for not posting new posts. But our schedule, the colds, the lack of wi-fi, etc have kept me from getting them in.

O Boy!  That cold I got in NY paid me another visit this week as Titus, Victor, and Kyle continue to battle the coughing cold they caught up there. They are getting better, albeit slowly.  I seem to have recovered only to aggravate my body with a ghost chili.

A fan gave us a jar of Indian Ghost Chili Peppers, the hottest peppers in the world, and I promised if my cold was better I would eat one with his son in law on the last day at the last show.   Kyle wanted in on it, just to say he did. So we took stage and donned rubber gloves and had a bowl of yogurt on standby.  Then, we all ate the chili. Kyle turned five shades of red, eyes watered, and scarfed down the yogurt in record time. The fan stood there as though he was fine but he instantly was covered and drenched in sweat. I kept composure for the most part but I was the first to hit the yogurt bowl; it being worst tasting than the pepper, I only ate half a bowl.  I suffered from a sour stomach that night. Nothing from the chili, it was the yogurt.   But this morning the pepper past and I have been enjoying an after burn most of the day. Kyle has yet to pass his, I expect a scream sometime in the night. wink!

For such a small town we sure had good turn outs. Amazingly we got more new Facebook friends and more Page Likes at this event than any other ever. We also had about 20 people who caught 75% of our shows and about 10 that saw every show.   We were gifted so much by various fans; the Hayes family lead the gifting with garden grown tomatoes, zucchini, ghost peppers, candy, toys for the kids and a laser engraved WVU glass-light-up thingy, oh, and 14 ears of garden grown corn.   The goat feed concession family's littlest daughter was one of those who saw every show. Her folks came a few times and gave us a bar of goat milk soap! (hope that wasn't a hint!! haha)  I thank everyone who gave us moral support by coming to our shows, playing with our kids, feeding us, gifting us, and the thousands of kind words.

Wednesday was press day. I had an interview with the press in Maine for the up coming show.  Then in the afternoon the regional TV and the local news paper showed up at the same show and we made front page and the regional TV news. It was a fun week. There is something about the hills of West Virginia with the steam coming off, and the fresh air, down home folks, straight talking folks, food, and general atmosphere that just relaxes one's soul.

Frogs legs.

Fresh out of bed with a fever to thank Rodney Hayes from stopping by to give us garden tomatoes. He and his family would be some of our biggest fans all week coming to over 75% of the shows.   I look a fright.
Olivia gets a horse ride.

We had only one show rain out. However, the last show on the last night was a half rain out as we approached the middle park of the show the drops started to fall. We rushed to protect electronic stuff and at risk props while still performing what we could.

Goat milk soap.

We packed up and were all in bed by 2am. I fell asleep around 5am. We were up and on the road by noon and off we went to Virginia. You would think that is an easy task.  Well, in between the two states are mountains with really sharp turns and very steep grades. I am driving a 34' class A motor home with a 13 foot trailer behind it. We could have taken any number of rural highways but that meant very attentive driving very narrow crazy roads, so we stuck to the larger highways and it took a little longer.   But we are here. We are just 10 miles from Monticello and we will visit Thomas J's old digs tomorrow. Jim has been there (as I believe Miles and CC) but the rest of us have not.  Olivia just learned about our 3rd Prez in her home school history studies so the timing is serendipitous.

Cynthia returns to Cali this Wed. she will spend the next couple of months preparing our house for possible listing for sale. Though we have not committed to the idea completely yet we are asking all of you to pray with us about the decision to move to KY.  Also keep her travels in you prayers. She also has a cold so keep that in mind too.

Oh, we past a sign for a town today that claimed it was the "Coolest little town in the USA, 2011".  I wonder who won 2014?

Well, that is it for now. Our shows in Courtland, VA for the Franklin-Southampton Fair start Wednesday.
