First...sorry we are two days behind...the hotel has had trouble with ther servers and on the 7th we were so tiered we didn't even touch the computer.
July 7-
We drove the 2nd to last and longest leg of the trip ending in Louisville, KY at 4:30 AM (it would'lve been 3:30 but just entering Louisville lost us an hour...the nasty time change line.)
The real excitment was we went through Nebraska, a sliver of Iowa, all of Missouri (the original plan was to have a Missouri BBQ in St Louis or Kansas City but our troubles in Reno through those plans off,) then across the toe of Illinois...through thunder storms to Indiana for 3 hours and into Kentucky.
We did get to see Bush Stadium in St Louis and the Arch as we drove by it....both impressive.
July 8
We had a three hour nap in Louisville, KY then had to get up and drive to finish the first leg of out tour. We made London, KY in 2 1/2 hours. Checked into the hotel, found a Lowes and bought the bricks we break on Miles' belly during the Bed of Nails, found the Walmart, and a nice park we hope to visit during our stay.
We got to the fair and discovered it's a tiny one. No Ag or Commercial buildng. It had a carnival, a couple of stages, a rodeo/race arena, and food. We brought our own stage so we set it up, leveled it and set up our backstage tents, trailer area and the back drop, sound and tricks.
By 5:30 when the gates open we were set (albeit very tired) and ready to perform. We did three shows to "first day crowds" (small, enhtusiastic). We were done by midnitght (shows are at 6:30, 8, and 10:30- we are the last event and get the entire fair going crowd for the last show.)
Many of you know we like to collect butterflies and moths...We make diaramas with them So far we have caught 3 large IO moths...not found in the west.
An interesting thing is that Carls' Jrs are Hardees here and the Green Burrito is the Red Burrito here.
Kentucky folks are really nice we get "hello"s and "how are you"s everywhere we go. Even obnoxious kids and teens have manners. "Thank you"s aren't rare here either.
The accents are cool too. There is a big dif between the Texas drawl and the Kentucky drawl.
