Farewell Virginia ...Hello New York

When one mentions New York they think of the Big Apple, The City. But that is only part of NY state and grant it, it is a big part. After all the area below Hwy 80 has more votes than the area north of 80 in spite of it being geographically smaller. If you split them in two it is unlikely the northern section would vote Democrat. I say that because it is almost the south when you get up here. There are a lot of rich city dwellers who own cabins or summer homes up here and so occasionally you here that heavy NY accent. otherwise, the farmers, rangers, etc all sound kind of southern. One big difference however, is the country southern hospitality is less prevalent up here. People are nice and all but strangers don't say hi and eye contact is avoided.
However, if you know the people, as we know many here in Walton, you are greeted as hardily as a relative long time unseen. That is how it was when we pulled in after a nearly 10 hour drive from Virginia.
The drive was a rainy affair for the most part. But it had stopped by the time we got here. As we are beginning to prepare for bed, which tonight consists of sleeping bags, tents, rv and the van....there is one hotel in town and the gouge during fair time if you can get a room at all, it is sprinkling a bit. (talk about a run on sentence.)
Amelia and Olivia were hoping their friend Autumn, the RV section's manager's grand daughter would be here this year. When we arrived she wasn't here yet. But shortly after dinner little Autumn had arrived so the kids spent a couple of hours doing crafts with her.
