Midnight storms and Shomres

After a beautiful day yesterday everyone went to bed happily dreaming of stars and fire-sides. Those dreams were interrupted by peels of thunder and flashes of lightening with huge drops of rain. Thankfully very little wind. The boys in the older tent had it the worst with a few drops working their way through the tent fabric. Everyone else were awakened but otherwise not bothered by the storm. Those of us in the RV heard the rain but the well insulated rig really made the storm a non event. Cynthia, in the van had to put up with rain on a metal roof. Big rain drops=big noise.
The morning was cool and overcast but the threat of more rain never materialized outside a small shower around 9am. The rest of the day warmed and humidified up. But not crazy hot like in July.
We had a group bible study/prayer/fellowship after everyone was up (I got up really late). Then it was pretty much a do your own thing day. I took the three little ones to a playground near the original settlement of Transylvania. Kentucky was almost Transylvania. We stopped and read the various historical markers. One marked the spot of the first Church service ever performed in KY. The other was the marker for the original location of the Fort Daniel Boone help build in 1775. We took along our Edible Plants book and discovered that many of the plants and trees in the area have edible parts. We tried some plantain and some clover. The sweet Gum (Amber) tree wasn't producing any sap anywhere so we couldn't try old style chewing gum. It was educational and fun. Then the kids hit the jungle gym and slides and such.
This cicada was on our porch this morning. He was about 3" long.
Tomorrow we have a 9-10 hour drive to Virginia. We are thinking of spending a couple of days in historic areas until we are due at the fair in Courtland on Wednesday.
Our prayers go out to Mr. Lundburg (Grandpa Lyundburg to my kids) who is dying of cancer. We love you Grandpa Lundburg.
I also want to give a shout out to Dean and JC and my folks back in Cali. Give Prince a hug for us.
