What a day! I mean it. But first look at the picture to the right...click on it to make it larger....the Sheriff is below a nightclub and between a car wash and a dance studio in a strip mall.
OK....well it is less than 90 minutes from Northampton to Waterbury where we planned to take it easy and enjoy an nice pizza pie with cousins. Less than 30 minutes from Waterbury the Rv started bumping and clunking. One of our tires lost it's tread. Not an official blow out but close enough. We pulled off and call AAA as we have no jack strong enough to lift the RV...neither did AAA. We tried various methods and mixes of his and my jacks and various things to shim the jacks to get a higher lift. NOPE. But the AAA guy told me there was a Mobile station near by that had a garage. We gingerly drove there. The mechanic had only these words for me, "You gonna have take it somewhere else!" (Hear it in you mind in a heavy east coast New York like accent). With some prodding he told me about Town Fair Tire 6.2 miles away. We went...again very gingerly). We made it to the area and I mistakenly took a Goodyear joint for the tire place. They told me they couldn't fix it. Told me to go back the way I came and try the Sears. Realizing my mistake I asked about Town Fair Tire and he said they wouldn't be able to help. He said they were to small. I didn't believe him and went the extra 1/4 mile and found out they were actually pretty big. They took the RV right away and had me out in about 45 minutes. And that was changing all 4 rear tires. (I had changed the front in Ky due to tread separation). Well nearly $1000 later (I bought the top of the line Toyos) we were nearly on the road again.
While they fixed the tires we went shopping for snacks at a little grocery store that proved to be the lowest priced place we had seen in CT to date. James and Eddie hit an Asian store they saw for Asian goodies to snack on. Then they ran the errand of getting me a new gas gap since the high velocity slinging tread hit the gas intake pipe so hard it broke the gas cap. It also bent up the pipe pretty good. I was able to get it less bent but I will need to do more tomorrow. The bend is causing very slow fill ups.
Well, we got on the road, got our Ninos pizza and got out of CT. But the curse of going through CT wasn't over. Just an hour or so ago I pulled into a gas station and while maneuvering the RV to make room for the Van I didn't pay attention to the rear of the RV and it clipped a cement bump protector. The picture below looks worse than it is....I am happy to say I have it fully insured. Also the truck stop we were at had a few things to help fix it. I will tape it up and water proof it tomorrow and call my insurance man.
